What are your areas of strength?
I believe my strengths include: CSTP 3.3, 3.4, and 5.7. My goal going into my first year was to improve on CSTP 3 and I believe I achieved that goal. This year I really focused understanding and organizing my subject matter in a way that I would be able to clearly present the subject matter to students.
Where are your opportunities for continuous improvement?
I could improve on are: CSTP 6.5, 4.1, and 1.2. My main focus this year was to become comfortable with the subject matter and curriculum, so next year I would like to focus more on engaging and supporting students in learning. Now that I am comfortable with my curriculum I can start to personalize and relate to students background and interests.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of making physics accessible to my students. I have been able to see the "ah-ha" moment with multiple students throughout the year and it feels very rewarding when you see the learning process succeed and it finally clicks for them. I look forward to next year when I will be able to fine-tune my approach and hopefully help more students understand and enjoy physics!
Student Quote: "Dear Mr. Aranda, thank you for making physics memorable. Although we had such a small class, it was still the best class I think I've ever actually enjoyed...I just wanted to say that I'm grateful to have had you as a teacher and you are appreciated!"
Educational Leader Statement: "Mr. Aranda has been an excellent addition to our Science Department this year; his command of the Physics content area is commendable, and his rapport with students is professional and kind at all time. He maintains a rigorous atmosphere in his classroom, and sets high expectation for his students. Mr. Aranda uses multiple methods of instructions, and a variety of instructional strategies to ensure student mastery. He uses real-world items to demonstrate physics concepts in a fluid, easy-to-understand way." -Wes Cullen, Principle Redlands High School
My goal is to improve CSTP Standard 3 (Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student learning). Specifically Standard 3.4: Utilizing instructional strategies that are appropriate for subject matter (Exploring: Gathers and uses additional instructional strategies in single lessons or sequence of lessons to increase student understanding of academic language appropriate to subject matter.)
Engage and Support all Students in Learning:
My goal is to do a better job of getting to know my students interests and background in order to alter my lessons to better relate to students and connect physics to areas of their life so they can better relate to the subject.
